Why my connections keeps dropping so drastically? It seldom been so stable ever since. Will you please take a look. Thanks.
No worries Imee, it's not so awesome when all you can do is wait, I know. Our work involves replacing/upgrading a lot of equipment and cabling along the way. If it's not already underway now, it will be shortly and I'll check for updates. We'll get there for you!
Hi imeegrace. I would like to take a look at your connection. If you could look in your inbox, I'll send you a private message.
How to change wiFi channel please Thanks.
The following document should help:
How to Change the Wireless Channel on Your Shaw Wireless Modem
Thank you! Hopefully that would solved it.
Probably, one of the silly mistake I made, was getting back having Shaw internet. Eversince, all I got is misery and frustration. why oh why... I chose you. All I heard is bunch of excuses... maintenance and it took forever. C'mon you guys,... Not acceptable
You're not alone I think .imeegrace Check out how many thread in here related to this issue. Oops! They might move my comment somewhere.~>>
Or even get deleted faithtricia sometimes they just seems over- reacting, to keep this community in control....
Sorry that you're not too happy with your internet at the moment imeegrace. Why don't I send a message to your Community Inbox and we can take a closer look.
Thanks Matt. I just done talking to one of your tech over the phone.here in Edmonton, she said maintenance in the area hopefully would be done in the next five days. I'll appreciate much, if you can take a look. I had a feeling that my issue is more than just the maintenance in my area.
Hi! Any update about my still unreliable wireless connection? What kind of works has been going on in my area that takes so long to be done? that affects my internet services.? So "Frustrating"
Sorry Imee, I don't have any more updates for you at the moment other than the time frame I gave you in our direct message conversation (which would apply to your home connection and the Go Wifi connection near your home).
For the Go Wifi issues you were seeing specifically though, were you able to try mark_vse's suggestion of removing your device MAC address from the Customer Centre and re-registering? Could you reply in your original thread on this here so we can keep the troubleshooting in one place?
YEs, though, you mentioned in our conversation that "tentative' time frame is mid of June??? But internet is considered to be a prime needs at this point of time. it's so hard for me to just wait and be patient. Half of the time my service is not working I don't know what to do. No ones could explain what kind of work you guys were doing that last that long to accomplish. This thing isn't new to me,??? the last time I cancelled my shaw internet it's because of this damn works that's going on again again constantly. Probably, I won't learn my lesson!!!??? Still coming back with Shaw. "Big Sigh"!!!
SOrry Matt. Just trying to vent my frustration with Shaw not with anyone of you guys.
If you are using your personal wireless router for any reasons along wiht your Shaw Modem+wireless router, I woul advise you to disable one and see, if it fixes the issue. I had a similar situation and I called shaw and got my Shaw wireless disabled because my prsonal router is much more advanced and powerful than the shaw one. And speeds came back up. In my case, the connection will not 'hold' good with 2 wireless netwroks interefering each other.
"We're all passionate about Internet" so Thank You Shaw for not be able to resolve my long term issue and let me move to other ISP. Appreciate all the help from this community. Good luck!
We're really sorry to hear that you're leaving us. I'd like to take another look and see if there are any updates on the maintenance I may be able to pass along as I appreciate you've been waiting a long time here and your frustrations are understandable for sure. If you have already made a final decision, however, I'd like to help make the cancellation process as easy as possible for you. I'll be sending you a DM, please check your Inbox.
Hey [shaw]jeff seems like, you feelin' my misery. Truth is, Telus supposed to be installing their wireless Optik box and their speed 50 Internet early today... But guess what? The installer didn't showed up, maybe it's because of "Father's day or some sort??? but bottom line is, they can't get it done as scheduled. Due to that, I might or still considering keeping/ staying with Shaw. So far, i don't had have much or major issue with my Gateway'_ I like it and I got used to it a lot already. It's the internet, that drive me nuts all the time especially in a very crucial and important momentS. Sucks and seems no ones does care much losing one customer like me. Currently, I wanna have a little break dealing this thing, Still can't make up mind what I want to do. Thanks for noticing this.
For sure, please just reply back to the direct message I've sent if you change your mind or I can help further
I'll get back to you later. Thanks.
As advertised' with "Shaw" you won't missed a [THING] as we can see faithtricia in your case and situation Imee, you're missing almost all the important things. How could you be so loyal to this company??? Good luck friend.
I Hope I won't get this thread locked.
sarahangelli faithtricia Loyal? What? Turning my back ...
you did asked, if I could monitor if there's any changes or progress when it comes to my wireless connection as per update, works done in my area. Here's my Speedtest result this morning. I am subscribing for BB50, is that acceptable speed for that?
This is on wireless. If you have a laptop or a computer, can you hook directly so that it is wired and run the speed test.
If your wired connection is getting the proper speeds, and your wireless isn't, then we just need to troubleshoot your wireless connection (but it would rule out a shaw speed issue initially). If both Wired and wireless are getting the same speeds, there is likely a congestion issue.
Great upload speeds though, I only get around 3 Mbps.
C'mon Imee imeegrace let this guys prove their geeky expertise. I'm sure they could get it fixed. You're not a Telus type.
okay mark_vse here's the wired connection result. Looks like area issue has been resolved. Thanks for that. But I wanted good wireless connection. TElus guy said they have stable wireless 50 though.
BTW, what you two sarahangelli faithtricia doing in this thread??? Thanks for whatever!!!
we just playing little angels sarahangelli Sometimes, you just blinded with your freakin' emotion
I am subscribing for BB50 hoping to get a decent speed wirelessly closer to that. What I'm getting is not even a fraction. Don't think Shaw would be proud of promoting as such???
There is more involved when dealing with wireless. Sometimes there are other things at play that cause wireless performance issues, and a lot of that has to do with how many wifi hotspots there are in a neighborhood. That is why most going to dual band can help if the 2.4 Ghz side is loaded.
I will send you some instructions on downloading that app, and it will show us how many other Wireless AP's are in your neighborhood that possibly is conflicting with the shaw modem.
Also, imee is their any difference in wireless speed if you are running the tests right beside the shaw modem vs doing it away from the modem? The first test you ran their, was that in close proximity to the modem?
the insider app is actually a paid one.
Found another one that is free that you could use
Thanks Mark for all those. Try to look at it thoroughly tmrw. At work at the moment. All I'm expecting is, how to get a stable better speed wirelessly. I'm so done dealing with so annoying connection.
Matt is also going to get in contact with you about another option we have with the modem.
Tomorrow we will see how many AP's using the tools above to see what the optimal channel is to be on.
Thanks for your help here Mark.
Indeed imeegrace, I'll reply to our ongoing direct message conversation to see what we can do about wireless for you.
What's acceptable on an Ipad? I just tested and I got 35 Mbps down On BB 50.
No too bad of a result buckycat. Wireless protocols being what they are, I'm usually happy with that on wireless (I've got bb50 as well). Anything faster is a bonus. The sub-10mbps result imeegrace posted though, isn't so good.
buckycat, yes 35 Mpbs for IPad is very very acceptable for me for BB50. If I could get that kind of speed consistently in my devices,I'll be dancing back and forth Lucky you ...
shaw-matt I'm just on my dinner break, I'll be replying your DMessage later. Thank You!
Hi mark_vse just got a chance to run a speedtest in different angle/distance as you were suggested. I had obtained all various result depending on the location and distance. Attached screenshots"...Were taken besides the 1)modem 2)Bedroom 3)Bath R 4)Hallway "outside my suite". Thanks so much for all your extra effort of resolving this issue.
Awesome this tells us that it is likely a range problem. I don't know how far away the furthest point is from the modem, but with a better wireless router you will probably get better coverage. We'll see if Matt can pull some strings with the new modem. It does have a 3x3 antenna in it and better coverage.
Already workin on it
Yeah! I'm hoping too, whatever it is you guys suggesting would be for the best. You're all the ones with the expertise anyways. Trusted that.
Did I heard it right? imeegrace you're not jumping away anymore? What happen to Telus Wireless then. She faithtricia beats me with this one Now what?
You guys sarahangelli faithtricia what? Made a bet? Of what?
ok cool, so that right now proves out that there is no issue with the shaw connection.
So if the complaint is always on wireless, we just need to figure out what's interfering and change the channel to make it better.
The Other option is to bridge the modem, and purchase a wireless router that is known to have great performance, range and speed.
But since we are looking at the shaw wireless and making that work, there is a program that can be downloaded on your laptop to test wireless networks (it's called inSSIDer) that can scan the channels being used in your neighborhood and recommend the optimal one to use. If there is a lot of Wireless connections on certain channels, it can degrade the wifi performance/speed.
