How do I access my Cisco DPC3825 Internet Modem from another province? I could do it with my old D-Link router by typing in the internet IP followed by :8080 but this router won't let me connect.
Hey there av8r42
The Cisco modem is not setup to allow remote access to the UI/configuration page. Most third party routers, such as the D-Link you mentioned would allow this. There is the option of remotely accessing your computer and then logging in that way as well.
Thanks for the reply Colin. That sucks I can't access the router remotely but oh well. I also noticed, like a few others, my signal strength is quite poor, much worse than my old D-Link. All this new router will let me do is change channels which I've done to no avail. I'm thinking my next plan is to "bridge" this new router to my old one. Do I need to bring the router back to the Shaw office and get a new one or can someone from Shaw send me a firmware modification?
If you wanted to go with a third-party router av8r42, we can send a command to bridge it from our side. The Cisco provides basic wireless access without all of the bells and whistles you might find on a dedicated router, so if it's just not cutting it for your needs, then for sure, let us know when you're ready and we'll take care of bridging it for you.
Thanks Matt! I'll call tech support this weekend and get it all figured out.
