I can get SOD, and the cover page for particular shows (e.g., Hawaii 5-0 on Global) but no actual shows. I also had The Blacklist yesterday - I was planning on catching up but today it isn't even listed. Explanation?
Hi Ali. Rebooting worked. Wish I'd thought of it earlier. Anyway, thanks for listening.
Shaw on Demand is up and running at the moment, we don't appear to have an issues with it at this side. Is the overall issue happening when accessing it from your TV, online, or both?
I searched for The Blacklist here as well and it is indeed not listed. It's possible that it was due to be removed from the library since the last time you had viewed it.
Why doesn't Shaw add a tag (with a date) to shows that are set to be removed from SOD.
A better idea is to not remove shows during their "off season". Look at the success of Breaking Bad. People were able to catch up during the off season, even if a few seasons behind. This brought record viewers to the series when it resumed. Time to join the 21st century and how people want to watch their entertainment.
mpa, we do put an "Available Until..." tag on at least some movies. This doesn't appear to be the case with TV shows though. I agree, it would be a nice addition.
dxer, thanks for the additional info. Can you please clarify a bit more? I understand that you can see the titles of shows, but no episodes to order. How about movies? Is the same problem apparently with both online access and from your TV?
I'm going to do a bit of digging here to see why The Blacklist is no longer available. Once I get a bit more info on that I'll let you know.
Hi Colin. I checked several channels and so far only just the main list of shows. I checked the TV, all Canadian channels. So far no individual programs.
As for The Blacklist, why would it be removed now? The season is still going, and I missed a few. Rather disappointing - kind of defeats the value of SOD, esp for those without a PVR.
Looks like some of The Blacklist is available for streaming on Global's website here: The Blacklist Episodes | TV Schedule. Not sure if those are any of the episodes you're looking, but still worth checking out.
Thanks for pointing me to the Global website. I've used it before, although it (and others) tend to be rather clunky places to watch TV. VOD is much better.
I checked the Movies in VOD and they are listed and work. I downloaded a free one just to see.
On the TV section, what I'll get is the list of shows with the available number of episodes (19). When I click on any one show, like Hawaii Five-O, I get the title and graphics (picture). But I don't get a list of episodes. The space for that list is there, but is simply blank. Thus I cannot download anything.
Ah okay, I see. That's interesting. A couple things I'd like to try if you can please:
I did manage to get a bit more info on the Blacklist as well. The licence on that content has expired which is why it is no longer there. Season 1, Episode 19 will be available on April 22nd.
the way you guys negotiate your licences is just strange. i think a serious review of your current business practices is very much needed.....
I'm not trying to watch the shows on the internet, so a different login isn't relevant. I guess I'll have to reboot and hope. I hate rebooting; it takes so long to rebuild the Guide. As for mpa's comment re negotiating licences, I must agree. What is the point of taking up so much bandwidth with VOD when it is inconsistent and unreliable. Surely a program could be set up so that it at least covers the season, especially in a semi-serialized program like The Blacklist.
Thanks dxer - let me know how it goes after rebooting.
