I saw in a previous discussion that someone who no longer has a shaw account needs to access their shaw email, can link to a friend who has a shaw account? Can you give me more information on this?
Sounds like it's too late to recover anything from that account.
Though, if you just need to receive a confirmation email, (Say, to change the email account for that site.) it may be as simple as re-creating the old email account under "whoever's" Shaw account. After a year, it should be freed up, as long as someone else hasn't created an account with the same name since.
I'm just shooting in the dark here but I think it should work.
I can definitely expand on that a bit for you, wynnf.
The technical explanation is that all an email address needs to work is an active internet account. We can also move emails between Shaw accounts fairly easily.
So sometimes when someone is closing their account and requires continued access to their email, we can move (ideally temporarily) their email address to a friend or family members Shaw account and it remains active. We do our best to accomodate these requests, but sometimes there are circumstances that prevent it. There are a few things to keep in mind when an email moves between accounts though:
1) The email account is no longer in your possession. We have to get authorization both from you and the active Shaw account holder (where the email is going to) because they will be taking over possession of the email.
2) The result of point 1 is that the account holder has full access to your email address. Be it changing it's password, authority to deletethe email, able to access the email, etc. This is why we always recommend a close friend or family member and in some situations even only as a temporary measure until a new email address is circulated.
This is also something we can only do around the same time as the original account being closed. If an email has been disabled for long enough, we won't be able to recover it.
I am referring to my cousin's account, which has been closed for over 1 year: They need access to the old shaw email as it is linked to an internet site that they need access to, to retrieve their password. I can let them know what to do, if this is possible.
Your idea worked, gamerguy. Thanks.
That's great. It was my pleasure.
If you (or someone else) closes their account, the email addresses will become inactive.
The email addresses can be transferred to another active Shaw account, to keep them active
