Is there a way to set the guide to show only the channels I subscribe to?
I think there was some confusion here because this discussion was started in the Gateway Forum. The DCX3400 does not have the option to remove channels to which you aren't subscribed. It's more to do with the Classic Guide than the hardware itself. The DCX3510 which uses the new HD Guide will only show you the channels you're subscribed to.
Hope that helps clear things up at least. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
For sure bcingyou, you can use the Favourites feature of the Gateway. The details on setting up a list are here.
The end result will be a list of just the channels you want.
I must not be understanding this. You don't mean I have to go through every channel 1 at a time. Or do you?
Yes. You need to uncheck any channel you want removed in the Channel List. It isn't too time consuming. Much better than the alternative in any case.
I am assuming the channel list and the guide are the same thing, and my guide doesn't have any check marks besides the channels.... And I do appreciate the responses
No the Channel List is different from the Channel Guide. Press the Menu button on your remote and then use the left or right arrow buttons to get to settings. The Channel List is just under, if I remember correctly, the Channel Guide option in the menu.
Edit: Here's the article
Shaw Gateway - How to remove channels from the Guide
Still can't get it. Also, the pics they show of the screen is much different than mine. I have a feeling that I have a different box. Mine doesn't say 'gateway' on it. It is 'Shaw HD PVR-500GB (DCX 3400). It is a shaw rental and it's made by Motorola.
Well that explains it. I thank all of you for the responses. It didn't didn't solve the channel problem, but answered all my questions.
I think as an alternative you can create a Favorites list with the channels you are subscribed to (or use most) to help filter.
Good point there supersmurf. That definitely does work for some.
I think I will do that. It'll take some time 1 at a time, but once done it's done.
Yeah, this is what I did when I had the standard HDPVR box. I found I also started cutting the number of channels in my favorites list as I didn't use a lot of them.
Now that I have a Gateway, I only view HD channels and probably record only from a dozen channels.
Best of luck
Oops sorry about the mix-up.
bcingyou You can also remove channels that you don't want or subscribe to from the Channel List in the settings menu.
