Emails won't send

Switched to a Mac and set-up my Shaw email using Apple Mail however I am not able to send emails.  I have re-entered the server set-up several times, read any documentation on the Shaw website and have yet to find a repair for the issue.  There is a router between the modem and the computer, if that is the issue is there a work around for it?
