can i use used hd pvr 6200 or 6416.
Yes... As long as it was previously a Shaw unit, but you won't get the MPEG4 stations
Guide to MPEG4 Channels and Digital Cable Boxes
Recommend getting the serial number checked by Shaw to confirm it has been released from the other account, not a rental, marked as stolen, actually came from Shaw... Basically confirming it can be activated.
You certainly can use a second hand unit of either of those models. To be clear, a DCT6200 is not a PVR, but a DCT6416 is. If you're considering buying a used one we should check the serial number for you first at this end. Let me know if you are and I'll message you directly for more information.
witch of the two can i use to record shows when i am not at home?
To echo Kevin's point above, though. The two boxes you've mentioned are a bit older and do not support MPEG-4 video. This isn't a big deal to some people but basically means there could be some HD channels that you cannot view with that box. If possible, it might be a better choice to go with newer hardware that is MPEG-4 compatible. You can find a list here: Guide to MPEG4 Channels and Digital Cable Boxes
yes i am, where is the serial number?
You can find the serial number on a sticker located either on the back or bottom of the box. The serial number should be 12 characters long and contain a mixture of letters and numbers. It's better not to post serial numbers publicly so I'll send a direct message to your Community Inbox, you can then safely reply back to that direct message with that information.
so 6200 is a same box as i have now, just to watch digit. tv?
The 6200 is a HD box, so it'll do digital and HD content, but it can't record. I'm not sure which one you have now, but you can see a picture of the 6200 by clicking on this link: Hardware Information - Motorola DCT6200
