My Gateway system doesn't populate the channel guide beyond the current time. It's not waiting to update and showing "to be announced", it just shows that the current program goes forever.

In regards to the guide not populating, how long has this been an issue been happening for? I'd definitely recommend trying a reset of your Gateway system using the instructions below:

Give that a try, and wait ~30 minutes for the guide data to load up. If that still doesn't do the trick, please just let us know.
The guide will load immediately, no need to wait 30 minutes .
sounds like to me that your gateway hasn't been downloading the epg file for a while. What lights are showing on your gateway now?
Hey swardrop, are you still having this issue with your guide? As our Gateway guru, mark_vse pointed out, the guide should load immediately after you reset it.
