Would the shaw Cisco dpc3825 modem/router combo have a better wifi range then my current setup of a Motorola sb5101 modem and a linksys wrt54g2 router?
The good old WRT54G series routers. They're certainly decent, but range-wise I would say they're probably going to give you around the same performance as ours, if not perhaps a little worse. Our wireless modems offer 802.11n speeds (generally at least over 100mbps) and gigabit (1000mbps) ethernet, whereas the Linksys offers 802.11g speeds (54mbps but in practice just over half that) and 100mbps ethernet.
If you wanted to look into one of our wireless modems, that might be an option. Are you experiencing wireless range issues at the moment and you're looking for an alternative? You might be able to correct this with your current setup by changing the wireless channel on your Linksys or simply resetting it to defaults (there should be a pinhole reset option on the back).
Let us know if you need more information though and we can look into it with you.
Is there a monthly rental for the 3825?
Generally no. It's possible changes to your plan may be needed though, especially if you have an older plan such as High Speed or Extreme. Did you want to look into it? Let me know.
