Hi, Shaw installed new internet to my neighbor a week ago. Since that time my usual 10mg or better has dropped to less than 5mg. I have a 25mg plan.
Certainly would seem related if you started seeing slower speeds as soon as your neighbour got set up, but we'll figure out what's causing that for sure.
Do you see slower speeds on wireless only or wired as well? Are you trying both speedtest.shaw.ca and speedtest.net (to a local server)?
Both speedtest, shaw and speedtest.net. And I,m using wireless. my wireless speed is 150mg my signal strength is good on channel 1. I am seeing a poor signal on channel 11 from my neighbor.
Interesting. Would you be able to test wired to the modem to confirm? Do you have our wireless modem or do you have your own wireless router?
I will test the hardwired modem in the morning. I am using my own linksys wireless router.
For sure if you could give that a go, that would be ideal. We'll want to ensure that everything local has been checked. If possible, bypass the router entirely and connect a single computer to the modem, then run a few more speed tests.
Solved the problem. Got good speed on the hard wire. Will research to see if a new/different wireless modem will help.
Nice, thanks for the update on that Dave.
If the problem is wireless interference and cycling through the channels on your router isn't cutting it (typically you'll want to go with either channel 1, 6 or 11 due to how they're spread), then you could look into a more powerful router or something that offers 5GHz capability, since fewer routers and other devices operate on this frequency.
