I want to search for movies only on my HDPVR. Not VOD. On the TV channels.
You can search for upcoming movies only, here is how to do so on our different devices:
On the DCX-3510-M this is done by by pressing Menu, then down arrow. If you then push OK while after highlighting Movies, the most recent live movies will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can scroll to the right for later airings.
On boxes with our older guide, such as the DCX-3400, you would press Menu, then navigate to the magnifying glass icon, press OK then go to Movies.
We hope this helps!
On the Gateway: (Should anyone need it...)
Menu>Navigate to 'Search'>Select 'Options'>deselect 'Video on Demand'
Then search will only search for 'TV shows' and 'my PVR recordings'.(Which can also be deselected.)
IMO the HD Guide/DCX-3510 is severly lacking in this kind of feature, which would be so valuable to have using the large grid-type display of the guide.
the horizontal bar Noah mentions displays the currently airing movies only and does not make for easy discovery of what movies might be coming up in several hours (or days) across many channels - something you COULD do if the HD Guide has a filtered mode, where you display the normal grid view but filter the contents, e.g. only show me movies on all channels in upcoming timeslots in the grid.
this would be sooo much more useful than the current(useless) Favourites feature of the 3510.
I proposed this kind of feature more than a year ago but not surprisingly there's no hint of Shaw ever considering adding such a useful filtered mode to the guide-view.
So instead, here's what I do to search for only upcoming movies on the Shaw channels I subscribe to which I might want to record:
- I use the What's On? iPad app (by Zap2It) which displays a nice grid and can ONLY show movies, or whatever category you like (example shown in old post I referenced above). Then I go set a recording on my 3510 if I notice an upcoming movie I want. It's very easy to scan through a few days of listings in just a few minutes this way. Impossible to do on the 3510.
- or I simply ask my friend who has Telus Optik TV, and he is able to not only display a movies-only filtered listing grid on his iPhone/iPad app, but ALSO directly set a recording from his mobile device even when he's not at home.
Now if only Shaw could do THAT with the 3510..... but I'll settle for a filtered grid-view listing first
Thank you very much for your info. It's quite disappointing that there in no easy way to search on the 3510, since I used that feature on my old digital box a lot. Maybe next time I'll go to Telus. It seams they understand their customer needs better!I thought I was getting a new & improved digital box, but I not!
As it turns out you can NOT search for upcoming movies, only movies playing now! I'm sorry I upgraded. In fact I downgraded! I hear that TELUS OPTIK is much better. Live & Learn!
yes that Favourites bar is useless to search for movies you might want to watch or record on your already-subscribed TV channels. What use is seeing the movies that have already started in the current timeslot? you've already missed the beginning of them all, why would you want to record them now?
what's needed is a filtered grid view listing across all channels and upcoming timeslots (like the Zap2it example I gave, or with Telus Optik)
For comparison's with Optik, HD guide really should not be used as an apples to apples. Shaw Gateway is the platform that competes on that level. I just wanted to point that out in case you were not aware of that.
The bottom line is, the search capability on the new digital box is very poor. I do not need gateway, nor do I want it.
