My Windows Live Mail contacts disappeared some time ago - click on contacts and the page comes up blank - how do I fix this?
Hello there hedwig, sorry to hear you lost your contacts there, I've had that happen to myself I know it can be devastating. I've done a bit of searching online and may be able to offer a few suggestions. I read of someone else having this problem, it may not be the exact same issue but it was in reference to their contact list going missing. They performed the following steps and they were able to get their contacts back.
1) In the upper left click on the down arrow right above the "E-mail message" icon to open a hidden menu.
2) Select Options.
3) Select Mail.
4) Go to the Connections tab.
5) Click on "Stop signing in."
This will "unhook" your Windows Live Mail client and possibly restore your missing contacts, seems to have worked for a few people now.
There have also been references online to the Norton Registry cleaner either corrupting or removing the database file location which can also cause the problem. Depending on how long ago it happened its possible that even a system restore to an earlier date might even resolve matter as well if you currently have that service turned on. The System restore step is not to be taken lightly, and would be more of a last resort type of step, so if you're considering that option it would be best to educate yourself about it first.
For the record the recommendations made above are more computer based steps and are not supported by our Shaw technical support teams, so if you don't feel comfortable performing these steps you may want to get some advanced assistance from a friend or family member who may be more familiar with computers.
Going forward we'd like to let you know we've made some major advancements to our Shaw webmail service, if you end up having to rebuild your contact list you may want to think about doing it within webmail. The reason this can be beneficial is that if you setup your contact list online where there will always be a backup copy on our Shaw servers, and in addition to that, if you have a mobile phone or device that supports active sync you may be able to configure that device for your existing account and when done in this manner it will synchronize all of your e-mail, contacts and even calendar information in real time. For more information on this option you can may want to check out the link posted below as it will require that your e-mail account has been upgraded to our new webmail 2.0 system.
We hope the information above proves to be helpful let us know if we can be of any more assistance.
