I Have a SMC network - SMC8014WN , and I seem to notice that my wireless light is constantly flashing... Is this normal?
100% normal. When it's flashing, that denotes that wireless traffic is passing through the device. You might not necessarily always have a wireless device connected; I believe it may periodically flash even with no wireless devices connected, but regardless, it's a normal behaviour.
Edit: To be on the paranoid side, if you know you don't have any wireless devices connected and it's constantly flashing, you can update your wireless password in case you think someone else might be connected to your network. Steps for that are right here.
Yes, when you scan with a wireless device (tablet, phone, computer), it shows the wireless names it sees, in order for that to work, your SMC broadcasts that it is available.
If you have no wireless devices, I would recommend disabling the wireless completely.
