I would like to be able to delete an email from my mobile phone, with the resulting email deleted from my desktop and laptop. What do I need to do?
The email clients on your desktop and laptop use POP to access the server, which means that they send periodic requests to the server to see if any new email has been sent to you. What they can't do though is synchronize with the server in such a way the your messages are deleted when you delete them from your phone and vice versa. If you have an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch or an Android device, you can set up your mobile phone to use the exchange service which will synchronize with Webmail 2.0 though (i.e. when you delete something from your phone, it will be removed from Webmail as well). You can find information on how to configure your phone with the exchange service in this article here: https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1070.
Hope this helps,
A method of Synchronization between your devices. Outlook & Windows Mobile for example, synchronizing changes.
ActiveSync from Shaw could do this, except it does not seem to allow desktop clients to connect, I think what you are looking for, is not available at this time.
IMAP could work too, but I have not heard of this working on the residental mail servers at all.
I have an iMac, iPhone and iPad. I have upgraded to Webmail 2.0 as I was told that all three would then sync so that when I delete an email from one, it will delete in all places. This seems to be working between my iPhone and iPad, but not with my desktop. I notice that in my Mail preferences, my desktop still shows as a POP account. Is there a way to fix this? Can my iMac be on Webmail also?
You will be using ActiveSync on your iPhone and iPad, but the desktop will not.
If you use the actual webmail - https://webmail.shaw.ca that would work.
I would rather use my regular email program on my iMac. So there is no way to have this ActiveSync on my desktop?
No, it is not possible to use ActiveSync on a desktop mail client at this time,
Without an official word from someone who knows, the best I have been able to deterime is that Shaw has not licensed ActiveSync access for desktop clients from Zimbra.
MAPI would work as well, but I think the port is blocked on the server in this case.
