Is my Shaw phone supposed to work in the event of a power failure? It did not last night
My understanding is that most of the phone units have a power backup source. But I'm not certain how long that backup should last - if you had a prolonged outage, its possible the backup battery was drained. It also might be worth verifying that the backup is adequately charged (unplug power cable and verify dial tone)
The phone modems will initially have power (for up to 4-6 hours) as they include a battery backup system. Cordless phones or other phones which require power to function normally will not work unless they are connected to an alternate source of power.
Do you use cordless only phone? If yes, does the main base station have a battery backup or a corded phone connection? Did you try a corded phone as well?
Also check if you have a drop-amplifier installed, if you do, and it isn't on a UPS, you'll lose the cable signal when the power goes out, regardless if your phone modem's battery is working or not
