I have a loud humming noise on my portable phone. The phone is usable but very annoying!
If there's a hum on your cordless phone, there's a couple options here to look at -
1. Take the battery out from the phone and put it back in, also take out the phone basestation's power cord from the socket and plug it back in. If there's more than one cordless phone feeding off the basestation, see if it's on more than one phone.
2. Connect the basestation's phone cord direct to the phone terminal - How to connect a phone directly to your Digital Phone Terminal
If you still have static after troubleshooting the phone (option 1) but it clears up after connecting phone to phone terminal (option 2), we will know it's the wiring from terminal to phone jacks. Either way, let us know!
Tried both your suggestions and still no change.
I would like take a look at the signal coming in to your phone terminal. If you could check your inbox in the top right corner, I will send you a private message for you account information.
For your info. I have two third party phones. Both were working fine before moving to my new home.
One is an old MTS desk type (which works fine) and two portable Uniden's.
These are the ones with the loud "Humm"
My phone number is [removed] if you need to call.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification Rick. If you notice that this is just a problem on your Uniden portable phones and not on your old MTS desk phone, then that isolates the issue to those phones specifically. You could try plugging your desk phone into the jack that your portable phones use to confirm this, as it's possible it could be the jack.
Thanks Matt, but I tried that.
I may have to replace the portable units. They are quite old.
Loud humm is usually the power supply going bad
