im wondering if there is a way to remove unwanted devices that are currently connected to my home internet.
or if I change the password will all devices be kicked off until the new password is entered?
Hi there rbartlett33,
If you want to restrict who can access your wireless network the best way to do that would be to change the wireless network password. Devices will be disconnected and will only be able to reconnect if they are given the new password. More information on how to change the password available here:
How to Change Your Wireless Network Password
Alternatively - and this is a more advanced method of strict access control - you could setup DHCP reservations for devices you want to have access to your network. From there you can usually allow/deny access to the network for specific MAC addresses, deny access to all unknown MAC addresses, or even setup access time restrictions for specific MAC addresses depending on which router you're using.
Not sure if the Shaw modem/router combo unit is capable of this. I've been in bridged mode using my own higher performance network hardware for 8+ years.
Best to change the network name (SSID) and password.
That way because your devices have the password saved, just changing the password, you don't have to wonder if the devices that won't connect are having password problems, or other issues completely
