How do you lock a movie rating of AO and not NR on the shaw gateway. When we select AO it automatically locks NR as we'll. We do not want this
When you block one level of parental control, it blocks all the levels below it. Now, I do understand your concern with the shows that are Not Rated. This makes sense as these shows are a grabbag of everything, including perhaps childrens' programming.
But therein lies the issue. Do we want to take a chance with one of those unrated shows being what would otherwise be labelled as mature content? For safety sake, that means putting NR below adult.
One alternative is turning off parental controls based on level and only blocking the specific channels that are more inclined to show adult content.
Can you block a specific program?
It appears you can lock by rating or channel only, not by program.
I'd recommend locking the channels which are more inclined to show adult content as shaw-lance recommended.
That way when you want to unlock the channel - you just need to enter a 4 digit pin to unlock it. And then you can also for example set a "relock timer" and it will relock the parental controls after '1, 2, 4, or 6 hours".
I Can only say that I am disappointed. With our other shaw systems we were able to block "adult" Ratings without blocking others. Perhaps this is something shaw should look at as I will be looking for this when I look into other systems.
Thanks for your feedback adholder
I'll add in our Shaw Gateway Guru - mark_vse to this discussion. Perhaps he can comment further on any possible workaround or communicate this issue to Arris as feedback.
I completely agree with adholder. This is completely flawed logic. There is so much NR material and nearly all is completely safe. The blocking hierarchy logic used is complete overkill and removes the option of the parent making his/her own judgement call on the NR category. The workarounds listed are really impractical. This requires a software fix to allow separate blocking of NC17 and R content without automatically blocking NR material.
I completely agree with the posters above. Leave the parental choices to us, the parents. If I want to block NR I will, but give ME the choice!
I've only had Gateway for a couple of weeks and this is already making me regret my choice.
Why would Shaw decide that NR is the one rating that we can't have control over? Ridiculous!
Family channel, YTV, cartoons - all "locked" most of the time.
