My email(s) are working fine, but I don't like the way they are set up when I log in. I want my in-box of my shaw web mail account to come up on the screen first. I can't find the tools to change my email's appearance.
It is in your webmail or in a program installed on your computer or device? I logged into my own webmail account and it went by default to my inbox. I looked in the preferences but wasn't able to find anything that could force it to go anywhere else.
One possibility is that your browser is loading old data from its cache. Resetting the cache as per our guide at Internet Browser Support should fix this for you.
If this isn't in webmail but instead is in an email program or app, please let us know which one. We could look into it for you to see if there is a default in that program that is going elsewhere than the inbox.
The webmail comes up full screen on my computer and it shows both of my email accounts in the format: (The snip tool wouldn't work to make a copy of the screen)
What I want to see when I click on my internet button is my Folders coming up on the left side, not the menu that appears. I had this on my old machine so I don't understand why I don't have it now. ....and my messages were displayed with the preview screen at the bottom, not the right. Surely there is some "Settings" menu somewhere to change my email's appearance on my laptop computer? (I don't care what it looks like on the Shaw server.)
Resetting the cache doesn't look to to me like it would solve the problem and I use Google Chrome rather than Internet explorer.
There are options within Webmail to customize it's appearance, to a degree. You can set the reading pane to be on the bottom instead of the right. The menu/folder listings on the left are not changeable as far as their appearance, though. Some aspects of the Webmail page just appear the way they do by design.
Here's how the left side should look:
To change the position of the reading pane: go to Preferences > Mail and find "Reading Pane" on the right. Looks like this:
I hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
I can't find Preferences on my laptop. Are you referring to Preference in ShawWebmail?
arggg.......ready to tear my hair out............argggg
Yes, Preferences in Webmail. It's near the top-right of the page when you are signed in.
I went into Webmail and changed my preferences and now my webmail looks just the way I want it to, BUT, when I log off Webmail and call in my email on my laptop, the appearance has not changed. I want my laptop email to look the same as my Webemail. Do I need to restart my computer?
Hi seaside, glad to hear you've made some progress there.
Shaw Webmail and the email program on your computer are two separate platforms. You can setup your computer so that it mirrors your email folders in Webmail, but there isn't any way to make them look the same in overall appearance.
Which program is it that you're using to view email on the laptop (for example Windows Mail or Outlook)? The appearance and options available to customize it will depend on which program it is.
I don't have Outlook, so it must be Windows Mail. This is what I could find. Where do I go from here?
Ah I see now seaside, you're using Windows 8 Mail. Windows 8 Mail looks a LOT different than previous Windows Mail and Windows Live mail programs. Unfortunately I don't believe there's much you can do in terms of changing the way it looks. I can recommend picking up Microsoft Outlook, as it looks more like an email program you may be used to:
Above is a random screenshot I grabbed from Google Images of what the new Outlook looks like. Microsoft Outlook is an email program you would have to pay for though, and it comes in a Microsoft Office package. If you're looking for a free alternative to a more familiar looking email program, you can try Mozilla Thunderbird. We have instructions on how to set Shaw email up with Mozilla Thunderbird here.
You have all been most helpful. Thanks a lot!
