I would like to be able to isolate my son's laptop and iPhone so that he cannot access the network after a certain time every night, can I do this?
Not that I am aware of with the provided WiFi modems,
If you look at different routers, you should find one with this feature though.
In DD-WRT you can specify the iPhone have a specific IP address, and then do a time-traffic profile restricting that IP at certain times.
Doesn't an iPhone normally have a data plan attached, that if the local network doesn't work, it will use celluar data instead?
Thanks for your response. I have an Apple Airport Extreme, not sure if that has the capability. I'm trying to restrict my son's usage of his laptop in his bedroom at a certain time. His Iphone does not have a data plan, he uses wifi over the home network.
You would set a "static" ip in the DHCP server section, giving the iPhone and laptop specific IP addresses, 192.168.0.50 and .51 for example.
Then in the time of day, have 192.168.0.50 and .51 internet access only from 7am to 9pm or whatever. If it has the feature to do it.
Thank you again. I have checked into my airport and it has controls. Appreciate your direction. Have a great day.
Just verify your Shaw modem is in a bridge mode, and have your Airport setup as the only router - this would remove WiFi from Shaw's modem.
