We have an old Shaw digital box and a new Shaw HD box (both Motorola) about 3 feet away from each other in the same room, and both remotes work for both boxes. What can I do so only one remote works for one box?
That is the downside to having two boxes of the same brand in the same room, there's no built-in solution here. Though, one thing I can think of is connecting the IR Tether that came with the new Shaw HD box, as that disables the front panel IR receiver on the HD box. And if you can place it in such an angle that it doesn't catch the signal from the other box, that may help isolate the receiving signal for this one box.
I've had a similar issue, with the kitchen TV being in line with the family room (main) TV. The only solution that I found is to not use the digital box and run the cable straight to the kitchen TV, keeping it as an analogue service. The problem, of course, is that I get only channels 2-29, but at least the two TVs can be on at the same time, on different channels. If Shaw ends analogue TV before a fix is found, then I'll be hooped, unless I'm prepared to run an extension cable up and around a door frame and along the counter to another spot (not pretty but it would work).
Another option - could be you have a Shaw Gateway System - and with a Portal as one of the boxes, the Motorola box doesn't interfere with it.
^ I have this setup in my 'office' works well
Yep - same here
