CRTC to allow U.S. Super Bowl commercials starting in 2017 - Business - CBC News
Not until 2017 if I understand correctly. CRTC is so out of touch with the general public.
How long will we need to wait for the other issues? ie. Unbundling tv packages, fair pricing, access to US networks directly without middle man, real competition, etc.
Is it just me, but I have not noticed why we can't watch the Superbowl in their natural "habitat" if you have the time shifting channels? Why pay for this service if the Superbowl, Oscars etc. are not being shown on their respected US channels?
I mean it makes sense that if you watch the Superbowl on a CDN channel that you get the CDN ads, but if you are watching it on on a time shifting channel you should be able to get the US feed and US commercials just like you would otherwise.
I'll add this article here for reference - may help clarify some points: Super Bowl Commercials
Nope...I already read the article....didn't clarify diddly squat.
Okay - well the good news I guess is that CRTC is planning to address this. From the article link: Seeing Canadian Commercials during the Super Bowl | CRTC
SuperBowl in early 2017 will no longer be showing the CDN ads on the American Network feeds.
Time-shifting won't help in this case.. All channels show the same game, at the same time
There is no earlier or later feed.
But yes, I am curious to how the new CRTC decision will play out, and if Bell will allow it next year anyways.
Given that one of Bell's Execs asked the CRTC for a meeting to discuss and was denied, I'm going to assume they are not eager to lose this cash cow. Bell suggested they make $20m each superbowl in simsub advertising.
