Why can you no longer import a box? I am disgusted with that. Instead of paying $25 for a Pace 775D I now have to pay $178 for a hd pvr
If you're looking at a Pace 775D that used to be on a Shaw customer's account, we can definitely add that to your own account for you. But if it's from a different cable provider's system, we regret that we would be unable to add it for you.
When we take shipment of digital boxes from a manufacturer, they load it with our own firmware. Other cable providers also do the same with digital boxes designed for them. But when you try to add a digital box from a different cable provider to the Shaw system, we need to try to override the firmware on that box with our own. In most cases, it is unsuccessful. Sometimes it will fail when we try to reset it, often times it will work for a short bit of time but fail soon after. It will usually result in a digital box that is now "bricked", unusable for us or the original cable provider.
I would recommend searching Kijiji, Craigslist or other online sites. I've also seen our third party retailers get shipments of older boxes and push them out at very low prices.
Can we try if I call tech support?
I do apologize but it is our firm policy to only allow digital boxes which have Shaw firmware. If it has another cable provider's firmware, we cannot add it for you.
Not impressed. It is the exact same box vs shaw. Same encryption same everything, you guys just do not want to send the firmware upgrade? Probably came out of the same factory in china made by the same workers shipped over the pacific in the same container, etc.
It is the same box but the firmware in it is unique for each cable provider. We've found that trying to override the initial firmware with our own usually is not successful. We will not be able to add it for you for that reason.
I don't care if we risk bricking it. I only spent a small amount on it.
It was well before the Pace units came out that Shaw stopped doing this.
The only way another provider's terminals will get added to Shaw, is if Shaw buys out that cable company.
Same for internet modems, which all confirm to the DOCSIS specs, but Shaw still won't add them either.
Strange it works the other way around.
Yes, the equipment would be compatible, but Shaw won't activate hardware not from Shaw
I've had this issue with internet modems too. Want a SB6120, but can't get one from Shaw, and can't activate one I got from the TPIA, even though it was in use on Shaw's system (figure that one out)
So far out of 10 cable companies shaw is the only one that will not do this. The big corporate giants are getting too big
