Some PVR playback recordings are finishing prematurely. get message box : "you have finished watching. do you want to keep this recording. Yes or No." Had similar problem last year. So Shaw replaced the box. Now the problem has returned. HELP!!!
Sorry to hear that you are experiencing similar issues after we have replaced the equipment. Is the symptom occurring on both movies and series or just a certain type? Does it happen to future recordings only, or does it happen to on the fly/live TV recordings as well? Troubleshooting wise, what has been tried so far and has it helped with the issue?
it only happens on future recordings. typically, on sportsnet channels when recording Premier soccer from UK. The only troubleshooting with this problem was to replace the old box last year (which had same problem).
It might be the guide thinking that the program is over. Which PVR do you have? There is a way to override the guide and extend recordings and we can send you the specific steps for your PVR.
I know how to extend recordings. I often do it for live sports programs. Why does the time bar at the bottom of screen show (for example) 2 hours recording, but the playback ends prematurely at (for example) 20 minutes with a message saying I have finished watching the program and do I want to save or delete it ? I now have four recordings (3 sports programs and one game show) with this same problem. One happened just yesterday. My PVR is Motorola DCX3510-M HDPVR.
Thanks for following up. It could be a few things but should be an easy enough fix. If you unplug the power to the box for 1 full minute at least then reconnect it and make a few test recordings that should help things out. Just make a series recording for any show that happens to be coming up and see if that sorts it out.
I did this same reboot a week ago, but still got the problem yesterday. Looking at your Forum issues it seems that other customers are getting the same or similar problems. Got your monthly invoice yesterday for $170. When are you going to stop clutching at straws and fix this problem. Either your boxes are flaky or their is a problem with your service signal.
On that note why do I keep getting notices on my screen telling me Network connections are being reset and will be restored shortly. What is that all about??
Good afternoon email@example.com
Sorry to hear that we haven't been able to resolve your PVR issue yet. I understand that we have had a technician out for this issue already but we may need to have someone visit again. Regarding the message you are seeing on your computer, sounds like you may also be having issues with your wireless internet. Have you tried a wired connection to see if this message still pops up?
Mine does both of these things. Its your HD PVR. Series recordings end prematurely, usually at around the 50 minute mark for 60 minute shows. I also get the network connections resetting message quite a bit too. You did away with the ability to extend recording times for series on the new PVRs like I was able to do with my old one which really sucks!
I keep being told that it has something to do with the "modem" not getting a signal. and there is no wireless. the thing is wired to the cable cord! I'm already on my 2nd box and have had techs out to check connections and they've installed a signal booster. The sound also cuts in and out in shows.
I've had nothing but problems with this "new" technology. My 10+ year old motorola PVR which I moved to the bedroom has none of these problems and just keeps chugging along.
I really think you should have worked out all these bugs by now!
Good news! The ability to extend recording time for any scheduled recording is now a feature for HD Guide equipment (HD Guide Maintenance Update - February 03-06, 2015).
It sounds like you've been dealing with these issues for quite some time, sorry to hear that. I'd like to take a closer look here, please check your Community Inbox for a direct message.
My problem has nothing to do with the ability to extending recording time (see earlier posts)
I am going away for a while. It will give you time to fix this problem which appears to be a common problem with other users. I will contact you again when I get back.
I have this problem too. I have a 3510 and both regular shows and English Premier soccer games have not been able to be seen in their entirety. The same message comes up asking if I want to delete it or keep it and I can't watch the recording any furthRe. Happened this morning with a game on channel 23 at 4:30 am. Barely got 10 minutes into the game when the message came up and that was it. Is there a solution to this?
Good afternoon budsgirl
Is this happening with all of your recordings? Do you have an expander connected to the 3510?
No it only happens once a week or so, usually when we are taping English soccet. It happened once with a show on Slice.
No expander, no splitter, not plugged into surge protector. My 3510 has been reset often for other issues and a tech has been here to check out the whole system.
Thanks for your reply budsgirl
Sounds like we might need to book another service call to check that out. I've sent you a direct message to collect your account details.
As it appears that quite of number of people have complained about this issue in various threads, perhaps instead of automatically suggesting that a tech be sent to my house who will no doubt see that everything is fine like he has in the past and suggest exchanging my pvr (for the 2nd time in 7 weeks) meaning I won't be able to watch my recordings, maybe a ticket could be opened regarding this problem and an ops team can investigate.
I just went through dealing with constant audio drops on one channel and was put through all the usual hoops (powering down, unscrewing the cable, remote resetting, suggested tech visit) on both online chatting and on the Forum, until, seeing that 3 different people in 3 different cities were experiencing the same issue, one Shaw agent last Saturday decided to open a ticket and the problem was solved in a couple of hours. One online chat agent insisted it had to be a signal issue on my end because it only involved one of my 3 pvrs and couldn't be on Shaw's end which proved to be incorrect.
I don't mean to tell you how to do your job but I go through this ritual with new problems almost weekly with my new 3510 pvr and it has wasted a huge amount of my time.
Mine hasnt been bad since they did a reset on their end last week but I know what you mean about the audio dropping out and shows ending prematurely.
I agree that these things should have been worked out by now! This thing has been on the market long enough (and is expensive enough!) and we pay huge amounts of stupid money for a whole bunch of channels that dont get watched! I've been tempted many times to bring the old 10+ year old Motorola unit out of the bedroom and put it back in the living room where it used to be because I know it works! Kinda reminds me of computer software companies that keep telling people to empty their cache and cookies for every darned thing.....lol.
I understand your frustration budsgirl. The particular issue you are experiencing isn't something we see much of. Most often recording issues on the HD guide happen at the end of the recording, cutting off the last few minutes. We can setup some test recordings here and see if we can replicate it which is necessary to create a ticket. Can you please tell us which channels you experienced this on as well as your location?
I have already deleted the soccer game from Saturday morning as I could only play 10 minutes of a 2 hour recording but it was on one of the Sportsnet HD channels, perhaps channel 23 on my 3510 but I can't be sure. It was on Saturday at 4:30 am (Tottenham played West Ham). It always happens on the Sportsnet HD channels during live games. It happened once before on Slice HD but that was about a month ago.
I am in West Vancouver.
There are several threads showing under the "More Like This" heading that is shown on the right side of this thread where people have had this issue over the past 2 years.
Thanks for that information! I looked through quite a few of the "more like this" posts and couldn't find any that matched your issue. Most were ending just a little early and others were on older hardware and yours is brand new. We are setting up some test recordings here to see if we can replicate the issue.
There are 2 other people on this thread and one other on the thread entitled "Playback on PVR: stops and won't allow to proceed" posted Jan 31/15 by jn19. Exact same issue, not being able to watch a recording of a live sporting event (his being hockey) in its entirety.
As I mentioned in my other question area - I'm experiencing this too. I don't recall noticing it until this last week or two - suddenly the episode just ends. I will actually make note of the series, channel etc. Unfortunately I have deleted them. Last night it was Big Bang Theory - I think from last week. I have now set my series recordings to go 5 minutes past the end time.
Sorry, I did jump into the thread half way and reading back now I see there are 2 other people who are having similar issues. I have brought this up with my support.
We'll let you know when we hear back.
I believe your issue is slightly different rubytuesday49, yours is cutting off the end of the recording, not at the beginning and you aren't getting the error message, correct? This is often an issue with shows going over there allotted time or the time in the guide not being exact about the end time - as you mentioned this can be solved by adjusting the settings to add on time at the end.
What channels are you having this happen on mistiblu and what is your location?
I just noticed that the first posting on this issue by firstname.lastname@example.org (page 1) - saying "Some PVR playback recordings are finishing prematurely. get message box : "you have finished watching. do you want to keep this recording. Yes or No."
and basically that's what has happened for me too. I guess I didn't make it clear that I also meant on my PVR playback of a recorded episode. (it isn't an error message, just that the playback is finished do I want to Keep or Delete)
