I just noticed that today Shaw added The Shopping Channel on channels 168 and 199 here in Lloydminster. Why bother putting this on two more times? Anyone know?
We heard back that this is part of our carrier agreement with the Shopping Channel. It is like this nationally.

I was wondering the same thing. We have two channels here in Vancouver carrying the same signal; 171 and 199.
I live in Edmonton and I have 3 channels for the shopping channel too 53 then repeated on channels 172,199
I live in Winnipeg and it has shown up on 128 and 199 and I have been wondering this myself.... wish someone from Shaw would answer this? Seems kinda odd....because if they are going to start doubling up channels.... then there would be no reason to not start bundling same channels together on digital.
I hope they are using the same same feed, and using three channels pointing to the same 'location' in the channel map (same frequency), rather than three seperate feeds on different frequencies... Bandwidth seems to be at a premium already...
I checked on it. 705 MHz is the same frequency for 53, 168 and 199,
Cool, I know EA2 was two feeds, digital 34 and 64, that were seperate data streams, but I haven't checked to see if they still are recently... It seemed inefficient.
Of course there are ~10 digital SD channels on each QAM, so that doesn't confirm that they are, but points in that direction...
Humm... Why do I care lol
I don't understand what the point of having three channels are. Is TSC a must carry? If I were Shaw I would have taken stance, if the CRTC doesn't force it to be carried, I'd have dug my heels in and said 1 feed or nothing. It just annoys me that here in Lloydminster we get this silliness, but there is no Super Channel nor any Canadian timeshifting networks beyond CJON from St. John's and CFSK from Saskatoon.
TSC is likely paying Shaw to carry the stations... Otherwise, why would any provider have them.
How many channel requests do you think Shaw gets to carry this channel in HD?
TSC, in this case, is making money off of the Shaw customers.
Not entirely true, now. I checked my parents Bell TV and it was listed as SHOP1, SHOP2 and SHOP3. Same channel same... well, you get the picture.
Here's a funny thought. Being the holiday season, it might just be there for that. So you see it more. Standing from a business standpoint it makes perfect sense.
