I want to change the number of days emails are retained in my inbox before being automatically deleted, but can not find the instructions. They are being deleted sooner than the settings in Thunderbird, so the change has to be made in Shaw Webmail.
There is not a setting in Webmail that determines how long emails are kept. This would be controlled by any email client(s) you have configured to access your email. A few questions:
1) When you say that you want to change the number of days that emails are retained in your Inbox, are you referring to your Webmail Inbox, or Thunderbird Inbox?
2) What setup method have you used for Thunderbird-- IMAP or POP/SMTP? (please see Mozilla Thunderbird Email Setup for more information on these two setup methods)
3) Do you have any other computers or mobile devices (cell phones, tablets, etc.) set up to receive your Shaw email as well?
Thanks Jeff. Your reply directed me to the solution, but answers first
1) webmail inbox
2) setup is POP
3) laptop is also set up to receive my emails as is my iPod Touch
I thought that I had set a retention limit back in Webmail1.0, when the mailbox was much smaller, but of course the setting is in Thunderbird. The tip off was the "other devices" question. The setting on my desktop was to retain messages on server for 100 days, but on my laptop which I rarely use (but my wife does) it was set for only 14 days. Fortunately, my iPod Touch (which I had forgotten about) was set for "never" in the advanced settings, as I would never have thought of that device.
Problem solved. Thanks again.
Glad you found what was causing that, and you're welcome!
