I am most grateful for your help you are the only one who has suggested unplugging the mouse! and it worked thanks again. I also have a problem with my laptop everytime it starts it says i need to download microsoft.net framework version 2 but when I try it tells me I have it already installed! thanks again for all your help I am in my mid 70s and sometimes find it hard to follow instructions but with you I have been very impressed sincerely Bob
Your screen-saver, do you have an actual screensaver setup? or a blank-screen option?
Power off? When you shut-down? Or the power save power-off for your monitor?
I have set up and set to turn off monitor after 30mins and turn off hard discs after 2hrs, system standby never, hope you can understand that thanks Bob
Ok, that does make sense, I have the same settings on mine, except shorter...
In display properties, which screensaver is set in the drop-down list?
3d flower pot is that what you mean?
Yes, that is what I ment,
Your mouse, is it a USB mouse? How much time until your screensaver is set to start?
yes it is a usb, I have had times set for 1, 2, 5, 10mins, it works ok on
preview but thats it, will not come on at all after times set! thanks for
helping me with this Bob
Your screensaver not coming on, likely whatever is causing that, is the same for your monitor not turning off.
USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged when the computer is on, so,
Set the screensaver to start after 1 or 2 minutes, apply, go back to your desktop, let it sit idle for a few minutes, if it still hasn't started, try unplugging your mouse, and then letting your computer sit for another few minutes.
This will indicate to us, if your mouse is telling yoru computer there is movement, and not letting the other steps happen.
Thanks, i am away from my computer until Friday evening, I will try this as soon as I get home and let you know if it worked, thanks again Bob
Hi tried this and it worked, great thank you, but after plugging mouse back in it stopped again, would this mean I need a new mouse? what do you suggest? thank you for all your help Bob
Likely the mouse, but may just need a new mouse driver, try reinstalling the driver software from the manufacture (Logitech or Microsoft are the two big names)
.Net framework http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=1639
Try Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, and uninstalling it before installing as well.
can only find net framework 4 extended would this be the one to remove?
Remove all the .net framework items that are listed.
Hi which net framework2 do I download? there seems to be a lot of them, I am a little confused, thanks again for your help Bob
The one I posted above seems to be the newest one,
Then check Windows Updates to see if there is an update to this download.
it keeps giving warnings that uninstalling the networks 4 may cause computer to not work! should I ignore it and uninstall anyway?
I don't know how to advise that one, it shouldn't be anything serious, if a program needs the .Net framework, and you uninstall it, that program won't work until the framework is reinstalled. The idea is that it would be reinstalled after a reboot anyways. It shouldn't cause your entire computer not to work, but stranger things have happened in my experience.
