REcorded CSI NY on nov nov 16 but the pvr only recorded the sound! No picture just black. Why would this happen?
That I haven't seen before... Unplug power, power back up, give a couple minutes to boot back up, does that help?
Which channel was it recorded on?
If you pause/rewind/fast-forward do you get the status bar on the bottom?
I would be interested in a solution to this as well.
I also recorded CSI NY on November 16 (CBS channel 6 in Edmonton) and the recording has sound but no picture.
I do see the status bar on the bottom of the screen when I pause/rewind/fast-forward.
I have unplugged my portal and plugged it back in after a couple of minutes with still no luck.
If both of you had the same issue with the same program, maybe a station issue at that time?kianna0204 what station did you record it on?
CHannel 201 CBSHD. I'm in the Edmonton area as well. Shaw support said they couldn't find any problems with the signal that evening and that it may be a glitch in my PVR hard drive. I didn't believe this as its a new PVR and the only problem was the picture. I too had the status bar at the bottom And could fast forward. This is weird.
I'd agree with kevinds on this one in that if you both experienced the same issue there may have been an issue with the CBS feed that week. I'll see if I can find anything out, but it was likely a one off. Apologize about that, not sure whether it was the broadcaster or us. Has this happened again?
Hasn't happened since. Recorded the same show on the same channel last night, and it is fine. So it was probably just a one-time problem.
I have had the same problem on another channel but it is not just when recording. It happens every day. When I first turn my tv on for the day I get a black screen but the audio is ok. If I change channels and then back again then the picture is ok.. This has screwed up several of my recordings. It started about the same time-- the weekend of the 16th.
I recently noticed it also happened while I was watching. This occured every time a certain commercial came on(4 times)
The commercial is for Assiniboine park in Winnipeg.
That commerical, is likely in a different resolution? 480i instead of 1080i or 720p
Using HDMI, changing resolutions forces another HDCP handshake, a few seconds, and then back to the other resolution might be confusing it.
Just a thought.
Not using HDMI. I recorded CSI Ny on the 16th and it was fine for me.
This is an ongoing issue for me. It just seems to get worse. Have called tech support 3 or 4 times, tried live chat. Nobody has any answers and no one even seems to care. Will give it a little more time and see if it resolves. If it does not I will have to cancel my services with shaw. I am pays for services and channels I am not getting.

Sorry that this has been an ongoing problem for you. It definitely sounds like it's annoying for sure. We do want to get to the bottom of this, but it's quite a strange situation. We haven't had any other reports of the picture on cable boxes going black after a certain commercial comes on. The only thing I could think of off the top of my head would be what kevinds mentioned, a problem with the resolution. That really won't be an issue though if you're not using HDMI.

Problem has suddenly stopped on its own. It has not happened since Sunday.

Now I have a different issue with this show. Same series recording for CSI NY. Last airing of the show it recorded the first 2 or 3 minutes then the recording ends. This is getting ridiculous. At the start it shows the recording goes for 1:02, it plays until the first commercial then the PVR changes the time of the recording to 0:00, stops playing and the Delete Don't delete box comes up - shows over. I'm about ready to bring back the PVR:(
Hi kianna0204, have we reset your PVR for you before? This reloads the software package on it and can fix a lot of problems. Also, have you had any trouble other than the two issues you've mentioned here and if so, is this a problem with more than just CSI: NY?
I have 2 PVRs - one of them has been reset but I don't think its this one I'm having issues with now. It seems to be just this show. It's weird.
