I have a cisco dpc3825 and the parental control doesn't work. I'm fairly sure I've applied the settings correctly but they have no effect. Do they work at all? I'm trying to block certain websites or keywords.
I did some further testing and it seems to require enabling from the User Setup tab.
1. After setting up Basic Rules
2. Go to User Setup tab
3. Enter a username and click "add user"
4. Then you have to from the drop down select the new user under "user settings"
5. Check the "enable" box
6. enter a password
7. Make sure Content Rule matches what your desired setting is (appears to be "default")
8. Click Save Settings
Now when you try to access the internet, it will ask you to login, and the login you give your kids is the login we have created above for the internet with all the rules. You of course are free to create a login for yourself under user setup that you will use to login with no content rules - you probably want to do this in advance, so you can give the user a password and remove any content rules or time restrictions from it.
Hope this helps!Ali
What are you trying to block? Basically, walk me through how you set it up (each box/option), and I'll try the same on mine, and we'll see what happens.
Let's say for example I don't want my kids to access Youtube or any Minecraft related site.
Here's what I'm doing:
thanks for any suggestions!
It appears you are correct, I have used similar settings to as per what your screenshot indicates and it does still let us access the websites in question. Since this is rather new firmware, I haven't really had a chance to fully play around with it yet, so I am not yet certain if there is a workaround for this issue at the moment but I will be sending this issue up the chain to see what we hear back.
Thanks for reporting this!
Thanks for looking into it, Ali. I look forward to hearing more news on it.
Nice sleuthing! That seems to work
