I have been asked to "Pleases restart my PC to upgrade to the latest version of McAfee" and when I do that I cannot connect to my wireless network
Which version of Windows?
Can you run the diagnose and repair on the wireless connection?
Windows 7not sure what that is but I ran a full scan and everything was ok
Start-Control Panel, View network status and tasks OR Network and Sharing Center, Change adapter settings
Right click the wireless one, while it is connected, but not connected? Status, then Diagnose.
Thanks--Diagnosed--could not detect a problem
In that same area, try Status, look for the IPv4 lines, what is there?
It might not be a connecting to network issue, it might be that network access doesn't work in Windows, but your network connection does work fine (if that makes sense).
It says --- internet.
What about this version of McAfee not allowing me to connect to the wireless ?
Could this be a virus?
Should I uninstall McAfee then install it ?
This has happened 4 times and I set my PC back to an earlier date to get connected !!
Yes, try the uninstall tool, then reinstall it again.
Below where it says Internet, there should be a Status button, which some numbers in it.
I think the firewall is acting up, I believe your wireless is connected, but Mcafee is blocking the traffic.
I have uninstalled and now it will not let me reinstall. It does eveything until the very end
Does it give you an error of any kind when it fails?
No--It gives a generic : We couldn't install any of the security features included with your software. To fix this you can . ( button ) Try installing them again.-------Which I have at least a dozen times. Very frustrating !! This has been caused by me trying to upgrade McAfee which Shaw has provided. When I phoned Shaw, the end result was suggested that I take my comp. to Future shop for servicing. I have not done this but I am real close to getting a new internet provider that can solve my problem. Telus phones weekly but I am not thrilled about how they treat existing clients and offer the moon to new ones. Although I feel like Shaw is following suit. Both companies are following a terrible business model of ignoring your customers--losing them--then trying to get them back by offering crazy deals. There must be someone else out there that appreciates the value of a loyal customer !!! Sorry for venting but I went with Shaw because they came to my home and provided service---must have been a long time ago----perhaps time to change,.
Try the uninstall tool, then try again.
Maybe shaw-phil can give some suggestions too.
Please check your private messages (check inbox at the top of this page). We can set a callback from one of our Shaw Secure team members. Then we can directly diagnose the reason the software won't re-install, and ensure you don't experience issues with further McAfee updates (incase it's a conflict with something else within Windows).
The McAfee removal tool and pre-install tools found at http://shawcd.shawbiz.ca/ is the best basic steps we can provide. If these are not helping to get McAfee re-installed, we'll need to look at other possible issues (like Windows Firewall, Windows Installer service, and more) that can cause issues with McAfee.
