after updating the app, I cannot use the airplay anymore. why ?
I got confirmation back that the feature was removed at the request of the studios that supply the content. This feature unfortunately will not be turned back on. Only alternative to use is a digital AV adapter since it is more secure than airplay.
Could you post a screenshot of the app version under Info, and the error message?
We'll have someone take a further look in to this
The Shaw Go Movie Central App Airplay function only transmits audio portion to TV via Apple TV. I went to Apple App store and read the reviews on this app after I couldn't get any video(only sound) to my TV from the Air Play function in the app. I tried it on my IPhone 4S and my Ipad2via Apple TV and got the same results. on both of my apple TV units. The reviews were brutal but accurate in describing this very poor performing app. Apparently this wasn't an issue until the latest update to the app according to some of the reviewers. I don't know how accurate that is but I do know the airplay function is defective and only transmits sound. Do any of the SHAW support people or any others know when this issue is going to be resolved .
I have also included screenshot of the version of the app I am using

Thanks for your post, I have begun to look in to the issue and will report back to you and mango977 - once I have further confirmation of what the issue is with Airplay not working with Go App after the recent update.
Thanks Ali. It is a mandatory update. A notice, "AirPlay: Audio Only" is included in the information for each title. Perhaps it has something to do with content protection demanded by the studios during licensing to Shaw and other content providers. Have you heard if the "Video Mirroring" and "Video Out" functionality via a Digital AV adapter has been affected by the 1.2.0 update as well?
Digital av adapter works fine (i have tested on both ipad and iphone), however that is at least protected with HDCP. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the feature was removed out of the code, because by default it is "turned on", and you have to opt out of airplay which disables video to be shown.
Airplay is not secure, and using a simple mac program like airserver can record the HLS stream. As you mentioned this is a big no no with content providers. In all our systems, vod cannot be recorded, so there is a potential that was disabled because that possibility was there. I am still researching into if airplay at the transmission layer sends content in a secure manor like HDCP, and if it follows CCI flags. If it doesn't, that is the reason why that capability was removed.
Update: it also appears the airplay protocol has been hacked which allows streaming to any device, so that may also have some play. Also appears many other developers of apps have disabled airplay functionality due to the same reasons (content not secure).
It is now January 5th and this issue is still not resolved. The Shaw Go Movie Central App Airplay function still only transmits audio portion to TV via Apple TV.
You need to either fix the app and post a notification to update it, or send at least a notice to your subscribers on an eta for this fix. what is the ETA?
I have hit up an app developer and am waiting for his response.
If i get a response back that it was removed due to compliancy issues, the feature will not be turned back on.
Hopefully i can report back good news, but from what i have already researched, it is unlikely that is going to happen.
Will report back soon.
have you tested it with the adapter?
Yes. That is what i posted above. I tested on ios 5.1.1 not 6. Should work on ios 6.x as well.
thanks so much for your help.
Too bad that users have to use AV adapter (wired) instead of wireless/airplay. But Global Video iPhone app is streaming fine. Why? Isn't global own by Shaw too? By the way, what is the mimimum internet speed should be used for streaming show from Global video or netflix, etc? And what is recommended? Thanks!
THat is the difference. Movie central and hbo content is not owned by shaw Depending on hd or sd, i would say a minimum is 7 mbps. Taking that into account, i would recommend speeds greater than 20 mbps to ensure so that you can watch a movie and surf at the same time.
When you tested with the AV adapter did content play in full widescreen on the TV or was the video window shrunk down?
My own personal testing i found the ipad natively covered the entire screen, however the iphone was letterboxed. Had to change the format on my tv to make it cover the screen.
Well then they should remove AirPlay from the feature list on the app web page. To bad it was one of the features that made the app really cool and amazing.
Thank you for pointing this out, we have put in the request to have the webpage updated.
Hi, there is no error message, just the audio working when using the airplay. It use to work perfectly before the udate
Is this now the case with Digital AV Adapter as well? I just picked one up so I could watch league pass on my TV but it only transmitted sound. I tried the Movie Central app and same thing as well. This was with a iPhone4.
Edit: Found this link almost right after I posted this. iOS: About Apple Digital AV Adapters I guess iPhone4 only supports video out and not mirroring. I guess if it did mirroring it would probably work? Can anyone confirm this for me?
works fine On devices that mirror. Tried on ipad 2 and up, and iphone 4s and up.
Well, I've been out of the country for a few months, returned to Canada and looking forward to using this app on my iPad...and lo and behold, I only have audio now. I am a Shaw subscriber and I pay for Movie Central. Without video, though, this app is utterly useless to me. Why bother offering it at all if only the audio is available?
So I posted my findings at the Apple App store, and I'm uninstalling the app.
