Our Motorola DCT3416 cable box has, for the last several weeks, produced an intermittent buzzing sound - the only way to stop it is to unplug the power. How can we stop this?
My first thought is it could be overheating.
When it is buzzing, placing your hand over the top, is it warmer than usual?
I don't think the DCT3416 has a fan, so the only thing that should buzz would be the hard drive?
Buzz is likely the power supply on its way to failing. You could try removing the top cover and blast the whole unit with a can of compressed air to clean out all the dust. Ask Shaw if they will replace it but I'm guessing they won't do that for the older Motorola boxes.
Yes, power supply could as well, 60 Hz buzz...
I'm not certain buzzing they would swap it, that is more annoyance. How long have you had it? Is it still under warranty?
