How can I revert back to pre 2.0 webmail?
We have upgraded all of our Webmail accounts from the original to the new Webmail 2.0. There is not a way to downgrade back to the original version as we have now retired the original site.
There's a lot of great features with the new Webmail that we couldn't use in the old version, such as auto-completion of contacts. More info can be found at Understanding Shaw Webmail
If there's anything in particular that you preferred on the original versus the new version? Let us know and we can certainly discuss it.
I can not resist replying to this thread even tho the original posting was not mine.
YES !!!!! there IS something that I really liked in the original version that is not in the new version.... the ability to see a list of "Unread" emails only. I have just spent 35 min waiting for a rep to come on line for shaw online chat, gave up and spent about 10 on the phone re this..... thinking that I was missing it somehow. Turns out it is not a feature of WebMail 2. Would really love to see it.
Just think, Shaw could have asked the original webmail client users if there was anything they'd like added to that version instead of scrapping it totally and introducing a brand new substandard replacement that probably cost them thousands of dollars.
You are probably reading this and thinking "why is this guy so bitter?". Because I have spoken to Shaw and I have basically been told "this version is better than the old". Really? In which ways?
Here are a few of my peeves:
When you launched the new version it should have automatically been set up to look like the old version, instead of requiring the user to try to figure out what settings to change to get it to look the same way.
You should have explained that one of your goofy versions (Ajax or HTML) won't open a new composition window, taking away the ability to look at previous e-mails while composing (unless you figure out how to change it in preferences).
One of the versions' composition windows won't wrap unless the window is pulled about 80% of the way across the screen. Dumb!!
Sometimes when I click on an e-mail only the top part of the e-mail shows up below.
Sometimes a single click opens an e-mail in the viewing window, sometimes a double or triple click is necessary.
Sometimes when I compose a new window opens, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes when I try to forward an e-mail to someone the message appears in the compose window complete with HTML coding. It is unreadable to the recipient unless they can read code. WHY???
If you choose to use Ajax ALL of your e-mails will show up in your inbox at once instead of letting you choose how many display on each page. The old way was fine. You should have left it alone or at least programmed it to take on the same preferences that users were using with the previous version.
Frankly I can't tell the difference between Ajax and HTML, one is as dumb as the other.
If I use the HTML version and select Standard View it reverts to some NON-standard View every time I log in again. Come on!!
I have lots more but this is just a start. I think the most frustrating part of this is that Shaw collected money from me to pay for my internet, cable, and phone to pay for someone to write this version. If you spent your money more wisely I wouldn't have to be wasting time writing this.
Change for the sake of change seldom works.
If its not broke, don't fix it!
Too late? Yes of course, the money has already been spent and the old version sent away (I don't believe it).
My suspicion is if you surveyed users who have used the old version there would be quite a backlash against 2.0.
Do us a favour and dust off the old one 1.0, call it Beta 3.0, tell users that you plan to fix what's wrong with 2.0, ask for feedback from them, make the changes to 1.0 and re-introduce it as 3.0.
Try something novel in 2013, listening to people who actually use the software, not some software programmers who have no idea about style and functionality. Thanks.
I am having the same problems as you are especially my forward e-mails that look like code,
My E-mail only works half the time and I did talk to a Shaw Tech asking her for help
to rectify this matter. She said she was sorry that she could not help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am new to Shaw community and not even sure where I would go for help.
I also did not notice any reply to correct these problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If one of your biggest issues is with forwarding emails, make sure you have set Format as HTML?
