As of mid Feb '15 our Motorola DCT3400 PVR no longer records video (sound only) on several of the HD channels.
Anyone found a solution to such a problem?
Hi there johnstontr,
Very sorry to hear that! Is it certain HD channels that the video is not recording on? Also, I'd recommend trying a power cycle of the unit, so please try unplugging the unit's power cable for a full 30 seconds and plug it back in, and let us know if it helps.
Thanks for the prompt reply. Two channels were 236 TSNHD and 272 Discovery HD there have ben others too, I believe, but I don't recall specifics. We have had minor pixilation problems well. We have done a 1 min. power cycle but got no apparent improvement.
Any other ideas we might try?
Thanks for getting back to us with more details! Ok so the pixelization makes me think you may be looking at a signal issue here. Let's take a look at the coaxial cable between the box and the wall outlet. Does this coaxial cable go straight from the box to the wall outlet? Or is it split first? Please give us a general picture on how this coaxial cable hooks up to the wall outlet.
Also, while you're doing this, you can "reseat" the coaxial connections by unscrewing and rescrewing them in at all points to ensure the connection is solid.
Based on earlier threads I had already removed a splitter on our incoming coax. It is now a 6ft.one piece cable direct to the PVR. (PVR to Sony Bravia TV is one piece HDMI.) This largely (but not totally) resolved the pixellation issue. It did nothing for the recording problem, however. I'll try reseating the co-ax connections again.
I note references to new MPEG4 technology. Is my problem that the mis-performing HD channels are in MPEG4 and my DCT (not DCX) 3400 PVR is not compatible?
The 3400 is MPEG4 compatible so that should not be a factor with the channel problem you are having. If you are still experiencing problems let us know and we can look into this further for you.
Hi Shane and kevinds
Thanks for the comments on the DCT3416. It seems to be behaving reasonably today; although we continue having sporadic problems (typically freezes of playback functions requiring a reboot to restore.) Any other suggested actions would be appreciated.
I'd like to grab your account information to verify a few things in this case, as most signs are pointing to the hardware being the issue now. Please check your Community Inbox shortly as I will be sending you a direct message to get your account information.
DCT3416 maybe? There is no DCT3400
DCT3416 is not MPEG4, so that could be it
