Is Shaw Secure (McAfee) still actually using and managing windows firewall in windows 7 or do they actually have thier own firewall now?
Thanks for any info.
Hello, Shaw Secure has its own firewall built in and is managed through Shaw Secure.
If you had any specific questions just let us know.
Just so I am clear, Shaw Secure has it's own firewall now and is not just "managing" windows firewall?
About a year ago Shaw Secure was actually managing the windows firewall in windows 7 and I had many problems with it.
It appeared to be Shaw Secure's firewall as it was part of the McAfee Security Centre but it was managing the windows firewall based on what options you cose through the security centre.
I looked into this a bit more and from what I can find it should be it's own firewall from the information I have gotten.
I copied and pasted the following
Is this no longer the case?

If it is McAfee, there's something important to check... and that is the status of the Windows Firewall Service. McAfee uses the Windows Firewall Service for it's own firewall. Please do this to check the status.
If "Windows Firewall" is there and is "Running"... than yes an uninstall/re-install of McAfee should resolve the issue. Use the removal tool as recommended by gamerguy.
If "Windows Firewall" is missing or is not "Running" (and is unable to start), than we have a bigger problem. If this is the case (or you just prefer to have some hands on assistance with the problem) please call or chat with Shaw Technical Support ( Contact us - Personal - Shaw.ca).
This is still correct... including in the new 13.6 built which is expected to be rolled out to all users through out this month.
McAfee's Firewall service requires the Windows Firewall service to be present and working. McAfee's Firewall does add extra layers like NetGuard, which protects unexpected outbound traffic (eg. if you were infected, it would attempt to stop information from being sent back to the internet and possibly it's creator for data collection).
