Is anyone else hearing a reverb or echo on Showcase HD only? The audio sounds like it's coming through a tunnel.
No other channels have this issue.
Good evening selfy
I have the channel on here in the office and it sounds fine. Do you have it hooked up to audio equipment? Is it on both the program and commericals?
No sound system - straight into TV via HDMI.
It's on programming and commercials. I also noticed it on a recording I did a few weeks ago.
Thanks for your reply selfy
Strange. And you said the SD version does not sound the same?
The SD version has the reverb, too. It sounds similar - the only difference is the SD is a bit louder.
I must add that the effect is subtle. The sort of reverb you'd get if you held a cardboard tube against your ear. Or, like low bit rate compressed audio such as satellite radio.
But it's definitely there and sounds like it's from the source.
I just tried it here in the office again. Cranked the speakers, and it does sound a bit "tinny" but I can't tell if it's just because of the quality of the speakers in the TV or not. I'll mention it to our monitoring teams to see if we receive any further reports of this issue. How long has it been happening for you?
Yes, it's definitely 'tinny' compared to other channels.
I first noticed it on PVR recordings I made a few weeks ago.
Hi there selfy,
I've asked around with our monitoring teams and they haven't noticed an issue with the audio on this channel. Are you still finding the audio to be tinny?
yes - the audio still sounds hollow and tinny, only on this channel.
Thank you, we are not hearing it our offices at this time. Do you have any other televisions in the home? If so, do they also have this issue with the channels sound?
I don't, but I have an older digital terminal I can hook up and feed into my stereo system.I will try that and report back.
Thank you for trying all of this with us. I am very interested to hear whether swapping the DCT will resolve the audio issues. Have a great day and we look forward to hearing from you.
I was in London Drugs today and they had a shaw gateway box feeding their TVs, so I put Showcase HD on and had a listen. The "echo chamber" effect on this channel could be heard in-store too.
Thank you for sharing this with us. We will definely be passing this along to our monitoring teams for further investigation.
Were you testing with audio from multiple TVs? Or just one?
I ask because I would expect it if you were listening to multiple TVs at the same time.
Hi selfy, it's possible that there is something going on with the feed of this channel which is specific to your local area, since you've noticed this on your home equipment as well as equipment outside your home. Can you tell us what city you are located in?
Try plugging headphones into your TV - the effect is much more noticeable this way.
Thanks selfy! I'll send you a direct message to grab your account information so we can send it to our operations teams as an example. If anyone else has noticed this, please be sure to post here so we can use your account as an example as well.
I notice the same reverb effect on Lifetime (LIFHD, channel 253 New Westminster). I have it on right now and it's very obvious, and not present on other channels I watch.
Both Lifetime and Showcase are Shaw Media channels, probably from the same source.
I'm actually not sure if we got a response on this. I wasn't able to find anything but believe it was shaw-brayden who sent in the escalation, so we'll check with him to see if he received a reply. He should be in later today.
