This morning I turned on CBC radio 2 and it is badly distorted. It is the only FM station that is, so I know it is not any hardware connections. When will this be fixed?
We will have our engineers check the source feed of the station to see if there are issues, thank you for reporting it.
We just had the feed checked and it was fine from here. Are you still noticing it on your end?
Seems to be okay now, thanks.
Excellent. Hopefully just a one-off thing, if you notice it again please let us know.
CBC radio 2 is distorted again. You can barely understand it.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the audio on CBC 2 again. We haven't had any reports of this from other customers, so it sounds like it may be an isolated issue. It also looks like you have previously had issues with pixelation on other channels, so based on that I suspect it could be signal related. Are you currently using a splitter? Do you still have pixelation or sound issues on any of your channels? When you checked your connections, did you try disconnecting the cable from the outlet/splitter/cable box?
Please stop doing that. All of the other channels are fine, just the CBC, so the issue is NOT here. Please look into this.
Hi perickson, we just had the source checked and it's coming through loud and clear. Either it's intermittent and it's not occurring when we happen check it, or there could be something else going on here. Typically, if it's a general problem, we'll start hearing other reports of it, but in this particular instance we aren't.
First question, how is it sounding right now on your end?
It is fine now. Earlier, it had the overall hiss like the signal level was too low. Will let you know when it happens again.
Sounds good, let us know.
CBC radio 2 is barely intelligible again. And yes, all the other channels are fine.
Thanks perickson, having it checked now to see if it's occurring at our test facility in Vancouver.
We've been monitoring it for some time now and are not hearing any distortion on CBC Radio 2. We've also confirmed no other reports coming in on this station as we were getting when there were previously issues with the other FM stations (I can completely understand here why you would suspect an issue with the source due to that past experience).
At this point, we'd like to book you a service call if it persists for you. Even if it's only on one station, that can be caused by the signal or a connection issue. As the FM stations each use different frequencies it's possible for there to be problems on some stations but not others like you are noticing here. Let us know here if it recurs and we'll look into setting up a free service call to check that.
It is back to normal (at least the new normal) now. That is not to say that your compression algorithm is not making a mess of the sibilants still, but it has been obvious that the level of quality we once enjoyed is a thing of the past. Will let you know if the signal level drops again.
KPLU and KING-fm are clear as a bell. Sibilance on CBC2 has been an ongoing problem for a long time. Thank heavens Shaw still carries Cable-FM, and free yet!
CBC2 is down in the mud again. All the other stations are fine.
Thanks for getting back to us. At this point, as per Jeff's earlier response, we would want to set up a service call so we can have a technician take a look. We will send you a private message in a moment so we can confirm the account information. Thanks!
This is not an issue at my end. The fact that all the other channels are fine proves that. The signal level for CBC2 is too low to reach full quieting. This is an issue at your end. I don't have time to deal with a service call which will obviously have nothing to do with the issue.
We'll have the operations team review this again.
Just got word from our Operations teams and they noticed no issues with the feed that we get so it may be localized to your home. We can certainly take a closer look at your account and book a technician to come take a look if necessary. Please let us know and we can certainly start that process. Do apologize for all the issues that you had been experiencing though!
Ken, the signal levels have been fine today. If the issue is in any way localized, it is not in my installation, and the fact that the problem is localized to one channel further demonstrates that it has nothing to do with my installation. Being federally licensed I know what I am talking about. For some reason that has nothing to do with my installation here, the CBC2 signal level drops below the point where there is full FM quieting. That is something that will need to be determined at your end. If, or should I say when it occurs again, I will let you know, but it would be nice to know that you are in fact looking at the right places. I hope eventually you figure it out. Thanks for the time and attention.
CBC Radio - volume is too low to hear at the normal levels.
