but I can't find any way to suspend service while I am away. Can you help?
As coolpup pointed out, you would need to contact a Shaw rep to suspend your services. You can do this by calling us or chatting in at Shaw — Use online chat to ask our Customer Care for help - Shaw.ca.
We call it TCIS ("Temporary Change In Service") and it is subject to the following rules:
- your account must be current (not overdue)
- duration is from 1-6 months and we would need the specific disconnect and reconnect dates
- it can only be once per rolling year (for example, if you were on TCIS from February 1 to April 30, 2012, you won't be eligible again til February 1, 2013)
- any promotions or "grandfathered" rates on your account will be removed (when services resume, you will be at regular rates)
There would be optional charges to keep voicemail and email active. And we do not charge to disconnect or reconnect services.
Any other questions, ask away!
You may have to call Shaw to do that.
Your information regarding "Temporary Change in Service" is very interesting. Where did you get this info? I was not given this information when I requested a suspension last fall and was surprised to find a large increase in rates which negated any savings from suspending service when service was resumed. I have looked through Shaw's "Term and Conditions" but couldn't find any reference to this policy. Is it written down somewhere ?

They should have informed you of this on the phone. I'd like to take a look at your account and see what happened in this case. I've sent you a private message in order to get the information needed to bring up your account.
TRied replying to your private message but it bounced. Phone number is [phone number removed]. If you need more info let me know how I can contact you privately.
THanhs foryour concern,
I'm sorry if you had problems responding to Lance's direct message. I removed the phone number from your last post for privacy reasons. I have sent you another direct message, please check your inbox at the top ^. Should you have any problems replying to this direct message, I have also sent you an email which you can reply to.
Normally I have kept my full phone and e-mail accounts when we go away for 5 months in the winter. When I have returned, my TV and Internet have always been returned to the same rates as before, pending any price increases. I am a long term Shaw full service user.
Are you saying that I can keep my voicemail on my phone number and not the rest of the phone? We keep the email(webmail) because of all of the e-mails that we receive.
If you suspend your account, you can keep voicemail and/or email addresses active for a small charge. Keeping voicemail active is useful as you can still call yourself, enter your voicemail code and get all messages.
With our security systems being monitored, I think we have to keep the phone active so that the auto-dialer can call out.
Thanks for the prompt response.
