Just wondering if there are any plans to update the Shaw Go Wifi app so that it actually works?
We actually received a response from the developers today. They're aware of these problems to a certain extent and found your additional info to be really helpful. Thanks again for all that. Without getting in to too much detail here, I can confirm that improvements for the app are in the works. We don't have anything official yet as to when an update will be applied, but it's nice to know that it has our attention.
What's the problem you're running into with it?
The application will not launch for me on a 1st generation iPad, 32 GB, wifi+3G, iOS 5.1.1. I have made a few uninstall and reinstall attempts.
Yes, I know the iPad is old but the system requirements listed in the App Store are iOS 4.3 or later, compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
Of the 19 reviews for the current version on the app store 17 are 1 star beginning on January 9th. Some others who cannot launch, some who can launch but say the app is very slow. Not all of the reviews specify what device they are installing on.
After trying unsuccessully to install the 1.20 Jan 8 latest version on my iPad 1st gen, I was able to install it on an iPad 2, 64 GB, wifi, iOS 6.0 and an iPhone 3GS, 8 GB, iOS 6.0 this afternoon.
A curious thing - the iPad 2 install shows 10.8 MB for usage with 4.1 MB for docs and data, the iPhone 10.2 and 3.5, while the iPad 1 shows 64.9 MB with 57.5 MB for data.
Great, thanks for all the detailed info there. I'm actually working with a mod on our end here and we're going to pass this along to a department that deals with the WiFi app more extensively. You've given us some really useful info so hopefully we can get an idea of where the problem is. Once we have something more to talk about here I'll keep you posted.
You could let your developers know I have sent a feedback message with a log from the app.
If put the iPad into Airplane mode the app will launch.
If it turn on Wi-fi all I see is the splash screen, but app remains resident.
If I turn off Wi-fi and turn on 3G, the app will show me the pins, with no location background map data and a warning message about No Internet Connection, "Map may be incomplete", etc. On 3G eventually the message goes away and data loads.
If I can't use the app with Wi-fi enabled it kind of defeats the purpose.
Thanks for the prompt follow up.
The developers can contact me at the email included with the feedback if they want any more info.
