Portal audio interference

I used the audio left and right out (rca) off a shaw portal for a source input on a Nexus Renaissance multi room audio amp. I am getting a bad buzzing/humming interference sound when I play a shaw music channel through the audio system. I tried different rca cables and different source input . I also have a different portal on Harmon Kardon home theatre amp which is hooked up via HDMI cable....no interference. Is the rca vs hdmi cables the problem? If so, my only option for an input on the Nexus is rca only (portal has optical and digital audio along with the rca). Do I have a ground loop issue? Is it handshake issue between the portal and the audio amp? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
