How come I still havr trouble with pop-ups and viruses??
Sorry to hear you're having issues with viruses and pop-ups. What kind of anti-virus software are you using? If you don't have it already, we offer Shaw Secure for free for our internet subscribers. You can get more information about it here: McAfee Internet Security overview
I seem to be in error, I can't seem to get secure in. Yes I have McFee and shouldn't he keep me out of trouble??
When is the last time you ran a virus scan? If you're not sure how to do it, you can find the instructions here: McAfee Internet Security - How to run a virus scan
There are "viruses" and there are "potentially unwanted programs" ('PUP').
Anti-virus software will detect the any "virus", but only some of them detect those 'PUP'.
Within Microsoft Internet Explorer, you should see the 'File / Edit / View / Favorites / Tools / Help' toolbar.
Click 'Manage add-ons'.
Look at 'Toolbars and Extensions'.
Check the "Publisher" column for names that are not familiar to you.
Click on one of them, and click 'Disable'.
Repeat for another other names.
Restart IE, and see if the pop-up windows still occur.
If still necessary, look at the free 'Ad-aware' software: www.lavasoft.com
Download/install/run it, to check for 'PUP'.
Also, within 'Control Panel', look at the list of "Installed Programs".
Click the column-heading to "sort-by-date-installed",
and look for newly-installed programs. Anything you don't recognize?
The pop up window which I am experiences comes on after log in without any windows open. It looks like an error message. At the top to says Join this Network (and states my SSID number!) at the bottom it has each time a different
long link to supposedly an apple.com site. Am on a 10.10.5 (mid 2013) MacBook Air with full updates allow for it. At Apple Discussion group on this issue, it came to people wondering if it was a internet provider issue -- in my case, Shaw.
Have other Shaw internet customers reported this pop-up?
What can I do about it?
Luckily it can be closed by clicking cancel in the bottom right hand corner
or the close red button in the top left hand side of the large pop up. When I changed my Network Name
it got worse, popping up much more frequently and not only at log in but when visiting websites too.
Changed that back to Automatic.
Feel like I am 'banging my head against the wall' trying to figure out what this is about.
Please give guidance and help if you can. Thank you for your time and consideration.

While Shaw offers free MacAfee anti-virus software for Windows, Shaw has nothing for the Apple OS.
However, see: https://www.trendmicro.com/en_ca/forHome/products/housecall.html
for a free "one-time" virus-scanner for your computer.
