I am a shaw subscriber and have a shaw email addresss. I have a friend visiting who has a Telus mailing address. She can connect to the internet through my router, but she can not send emails. What must she do?

It sounds like your friend is trying to use POP3 through your Shaw internet connection, and perhaps the outgoing mail server isn't working. You may have to get in touch with Telus to see if they have an alternate outgoing mail server for use on non-Telus internet connections in order to send emails successfully.
Alternatively, your friend should also be able to log in to Telus webmail which should work on any internet connection, and send the email out there.
Or change the outgoing server settings to Shaw's, depending on how long she is visiting for..
Also could change to Telus' authenticated mail server, so that when she travels anywhere, she would still be able to send email
