I Have a shaw gateway and just bought a new Samsung plasma. The gateway remote always takes 3 or 4 button presses to get any action. very frustrating. Has anyone else had this problem? I've turned off Eco mode and all that to reduce IR interference.
Hey skrz, definitely shouldn't take more than one press to get the Portal to respond.
I know you've looked at disabling any IR interference from the TV's sensors, but just to confirm, have you tried changing the channel with the TV off entirely to see if the responsiveness is improved at all?
How far away are you from the Portal and is it in direct view or slightly out of sight/any obstructions?
Hi Matt thanks for the advice. However I can't see or hear the channel change on the gateway unit because there is no channel number LED indicators on the front panel.
Also, I noticed I get same lag or non response when I directly press the channel up down buttons right on the gateway unit (not using the remote). I think there must be a problem with how the Samsung TV is interpreting the signal from the gateway. Probably one or the other needs a firmware update? I have swapped gateways, TVs and cables and nothing fixes it. Seems to be isolated to this particular Samsung model but is it a gateway issue or a TV issue? What needs fixing? The gateway signal going out or the TV's input? I don't think I'll ever know...
Hey again skrz, my bad, of course the Gateway has no channel display!
As you notice the lag even with the front panel buttons though, that's irrelevant at this point. It seems you've done what you can for isolating the issue to something between the Portal and Samsung TV. What's the model #?
Perfect, thanks. mark_vse any insight here?
I too have this issue.
Sometimes it takes 3+ presses to get the PVR button to work. Sometimes I even hear the audible 'click' through the speakers, yet it never actually opens the PVR menu. It's also other buttons but I mostly notice it with the PVR button. It can be hit or miss. Sometimes it works normally, other times, the above.
I was even contemplating exchanging the remote but I think it's more a Gateway/Portal issue. (As I said, I hear the 'click' but nothing happens. Which leads me to believe it's not the remote itself, though I could be wrong.)
Hey gamerguy (and skrz), is this happening with all Portals or just one?
I just have the one.
It happens to me as well using a Harmony remote pushing the PVR button. I thought it was just an issue with the Harmony.
I've never even used the supplied remote, I'll try it later and see if I have the same issue.
Hhm, that's interesting. Thanks for mentioning it. It seems to confirm my theory it's not the remote itself.
I was actually considering buying a Harmony hoping it would solve this issue at one point.
Thanks buckycat, let us know what happens.
