I have the SB5100 Motorola Surfboard modem that keeps dropping the online connection at any given time for any amount of time. I have tried all the suggestions posted - resetting powering off checking cable connections.
When I unplug the coaxial cord and touch that to the back of the modem and reconnect it, that restores the green lights 99.9% of the time. Sometimes it takes a second time to unplug and then it works again. It can stay ok for a couple minutes or a couple hours.
It is connected to a splitter and I have replaced the splitter but that has not fixed it. I have tried to pick a different "slot" on the splitter (switching it with the TV cord) but that didn't work either. TV/PVR work fine.
It doesn't matter if I have the modem plugged in directly to the my computer or to a router - it is the modem that keeps losing the ONLINE connection.
This started around Christmas time and it is getting more and more frustrating.
Any ideas/suggestions of what to do? Do I need to replace the modem? Do I need to have a Shaw tech come look at this?
