What would happen if I moved a modem from one service location to another at a different address? I know the policy is to notify Shaw of any moves, but in theory would it work anyway, assuming both locations were wired for Shaw service?
Each modem is tied to its subscriber account/address in our system. If the modem is hooked up and tries to authenticate from a different address, it'll go into a suspended state and won't come online.
Figured as much. I remember you used to be able to do this in the old days but it's been years since i tried.
Haha yeah, I used to grab my Extreme modem when going out on calls, because it was usually faster than downloading updates with the Lite Speed that everybody seemed to have
My brother last year had a 100/10 modem, mine was only 100/5, so I tried, but didn't connect, just kept cycling
I pray to the IT gods daily that Shaw will bless us with some better upload speed options.
Haha I waited 3+ years to get the 100/10 on my business connection. Once they made their big plan changes in January, I finally realized it wasn't going to happen, made some changes, now have 10 up.. lol
Yeah, Shaw has security to only allow your modem to connect to the right node (to prevent cloned modems).
In short, this will no longer work
