Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2015-299
I knew that GOL TV was going to go belly-up when they lost their rights to the German Bundesliga games. The broadcast rights for the Americas and large parts of Asia are now being held for the foreseeable future by US based Fox Sports. Regrettably, Shaw does not carry any of these Fox Sports channels. I requested the applicable channels to be added but I am naturally not holding my breath. This means that one of the most popular football leagues in the world is not available on Shaw. I will have to find a (preferably legal) alternative. Shaw keeps adding cheaply sourced cr*p content channels that are of interest to 0.5% of their subscriber base to bolster their line-up stats (soon to fail when the CRTC mandated pick-and-pay kicks in) but drop the ball on content that is popular globally. There is hardly anything left worth watching on cable for me.
Good afternoon blubear,
I can understand how a change in rights to a network that we currently do not carry may be frustrating. This recent change may increase the number of requests for Fox Sports 1. While you may have already included your request for For Sports 1, others may not and may be able to do so here: Channel Request(s) Form 1.0.
Hopefully with the addition of new content and increase in requests, we may see FS1 added.
First of all, according to the official webpage of Bundesliga, Fox Sports shared the rights with Rogers in Canada and I think Rogers is going to announce this news very soon.
In reality, the CRTC had yet to allow any Fox Sports channel except Fox Sports Racing, which Shaw had dropped the channel since April, to go north. So asking for a channel which is yet to be allowed to air in Canada doesn't make any sense at all.
Thanks, swanch. This is a new development. I've been visiting the Bundesliga site on a regular basis for months, yet this is the first time I see Rogers mentioned as a broadcaster. Hopefully this will be in time for the start of the season, and be carried by a channel available on Shaw.
Has the CRTC refused to allow Fox Sports from broadcasting in Canada?
All the more to get BeIN sports in on Shaw Cable. At least that is allowed in Canada. (Shaw Direct, Bell, Rogers cable, ect. ect. ect.)
Shaw has a void in regards to proper European coverage. Its time to fill it.
