Why does my wireless internet continue to cut out and I have to reset both box and router
When your wireless cuts out, do your wired connections cut out too? Or just the wireless?
When it cuts out, do the lights on the modem change at all? Have you tried resetting your router only when it cuts out?
No my wired connection is still good. Can't say i really looked at the lights but i will next time it happens. And when wireless kicks off or cant connect i just automaticely reset both but will try that next. I have also gone and bought a new router as I was told it may have been due to older model but that didnt seem to help either
If your wired connection is still good, this sounds like it might be wireless interference (with other routers, cordless phones, etc...), especially if you're having the same problem with a new router. If that's the case, check out your router manufacturer's website for details on how to change the wireless channel, or post the model number here and we might be able to find the steps for you.
It's also possible that it's a problem with the device/equipment you're using wirelessly (would really only apply if you use one wireless device or only see the problem on one device). For example, if you use a laptop wirelessly, there could be a problem with the wireless card or a software issue causing it to drop the connection until it's reset.
If you think that might be the issue, let us know.
ok so not having any luck on D-Link website so Matt maybe you can help me out the model number is DIR-615
Hi again kitkat
I've had a look and I've found you some instructions for changing the channel on your router. It's a forum post here:
Need help changing my channel
Scroll down to Trikein's response, they even have some screenshots for you. Give channel 1, 6 or 11 a try.
Hopefully this helps.
This didnt work either as it would not let me make changes although it said if auto scan was checked it probably won't help and it waas checked
Ha, actually I found a product emulator on their site; pretty handy. It looks like you should be able to manually change the wireless channel as long as 'Enable Auto Channel Scan' is unchecked; at least it allows me to in the emulator (which is here: D-LINK SYSTEMS, INC | WIRELESS ROUTER | HOME). Remember to Save Settings.
If you're still not able to change it though, I'd recommend giving D-Link a call at 1-800-361-5265, or by email through their contact form at http://www.dlink.com/ca/en/support/contact-support.
I remember when I called them a couple of years ago they didn't charge me for support, but that may have changed.
This is happening to all computers in my house not just one so don't think this is a devise/equipment problem
I now no that If I just reset the router I can get a conection I do not have to reset both boxes so I will now try and change the chanel on my d-link router
Will post my results
