Why is someone using my phone number to call me? If I pick the phone, there is no answer. I do not want someone using my number for spoofing.
What can I do?
Telemarketing companies have figured a new way to call and have their numbers appear on your call display as your number. It is something that has started recently. Unfortunately these telemarketers are outside of Canada there is nothing that we or the CRTC can do to stop these at this time. I have been suggesting to customers to just disregard the calls as it is very obvious sign of a telemarketer. The call connects to their phone if you stay on the line, which is why there is no one on the line when you answer. I have been suggesting that some handheld phones have the ability to block specific numbers from ringing through. As you will never be calling yourself from your home line, its harmless to block your own number.
Hope this helps and have a great day.
It's been happening to me too.
Tried *69 but that function does not work with this one.
Any more info from anyone would be appreciated.
I'm on the Do Not Call List and report violations occasionally.
Wondered if it might be a revenge kind of thing.
The Do Not Call list in Canada does not work well; the US one barely works at all.
Called Shaw and they said Unfortunately they can do nothing about it.
Advised to report to the Do Not Call Centre which I've been doing for a few years.
I would like to be able to fwd them to an appropriate place; Politician, Police, Shaw,
This had the potential to be come a major pain .
Hi there doxland,
Thanks for reaching out. We are very sorry to hear you've been receiving fraudulent calls lately. I would recommend checking out our How to deal with scam phone calls to Shaw customers page for more information on this sort of call. The Do Not Call lists are definitely helpful for telemarketing, but just like viruses and spyware, these sorts of malicious calls are continuously finding their way around safeguards in place to prevent them.
