I'll be using a 100 foot ethernet cable between the modem and router, I wanted to know should I use a cheaper cat5e or invest in a cat6 cable. And what router do you guys recommend?
I'm on the 120 plan.
Definitely a good question. Seeing as you are on 120 I would suggest purchasing a Cat5e. It will give you everything your looking for and can usually be found for a bit less cost.
In regards to a router, we don't personally have a preference. I would suggest talking to a few salesmen at different stores to see what they suggest for your situation. I hope that this info helps.
Not sure on a recommended router but I'll let others chime in on that topic. In respect to which grade ethernet cable you should use.. I personally don't feel that the difference between the two in extra performance will make a difference in regular usage. Though, if the price is right and you're buying new cable anyways, you may as well. Also, 100 ft is quite the distance...
If you're transferring lots of data over your network than the cat6 might be a better bet since you're purchasing new cable anyways but if you already have cat5e. I think I would stick with the status quo. I think it will really come down to what you are using it for and what you're looking to get out of it.
Cat5e vs Cat6, depends on the price difference..
If they are close in price, get the Cat6, if it is a large difference, Cat5e will be good.
What features do you need? That is similar to me asking you which vehicle do I need for driving around the city..
