I have a DCT 6200 HD box that works fine but it emits a very annoying high pitch (like a hiss) noise. Does anybody knows why and how to fix it (and where to go for that)?
That's a bit unusual! It's hard to say what exactly it might be. The usual suspect is a hard drive, but since that's a 6200, that's not applicable.
Have you tried removing the power for 30 seconds and checking again?
Hi Matt, I did that a few times to no avail. Listening close to the device, I noticed the place on the board from which the sound was coming. I tried to touch/press the capacitors from that area (with a hard plastic strip through the air vents on top of the unit) and, even though one can hear the sound changing, it did not go away. Bottom line, I can no longer use the box and I would like to know what can I do to fix it (I have the 6200 for 4 years so, not sure if there is any warranty on it anymore).
Luckily this is for my second outlet (I have a DCX 3200 - P2 for my main TV, but that one is not HD guide capable). In the mean time I tried to use my old (original) digital box ( a DCT 2224 unit, no HD) for my second outlet, but it did not work (the message - One moment please, this channel will be available shortly continue to be displayed after many hours - overnight - of being plugged in). Ideal, I would like to get another DCX 3200 for the two old boxes (or a refurbished one) from Shaw. Please advice. Thx.
Must be the fan if you don't have a HDD in it. I suggest to get a DCX-3400 off Craigslist or something, those are much improved. I had a 6416, and I couldn't stand the whining in the bedroom, so had to get rid of it and replace with a DCX-3400 which is much quieter and almost silent.
